Which AirPods should you buy?
For most people, AirPods 5 are the default pick. Active noise cancellation is now standard on the entry model, which Apple sells at the same $129 list price the non-ANC AirPods 4 had.
The $20 step up to AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case buys three things: a case that charges on Qi and Apple Watch chargers, swipe-to-adjust volume, and a little more battery (up to 5 hours with ANC instead of 4). Worth it if you already charge on a pad; skippable if you don’t.
AirPods Pro 3 are the upgrade for a sealed in-ear fit: silicone tips, stronger noise cancellation, heart-rate sensing for workouts and Apple’s hearing-health features. Retailers have been selling them well under Apple’s $249, so check the table before paying list.
AirPods 4 only make sense below AirPods 5’s price. The non-ANC model is a reasonable budget pick at a clear discount; the ANC model is hard to justify next to AirPods 5 unless it is noticeably cheaper.
AirPods Max 2 are the over-ear option, and the only one here built for long sessions at a desk or on a plane rather than for your pocket.

AirPods 5 (USB-C case) at $129.00 from Amazon, as of our check on Oct 14, 2026. The tables above have every model and retailer.
Are AirPods 4 discontinued?
Apple stopped selling AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation on its own store when AirPods 5 launched in September 2026. Some retailers still have stock; those prices are in the previous-generation section above, checked the same way as everything else.
What is the difference between AirPods 5 and AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case?
The earbuds are the same. The $149 version’s case charges wirelessly (Qi and Apple Watch chargers), adds a force sensor for swipe volume control, and gets slightly longer battery life: up to 5 hours with noise cancellation and 22 hours with the case, against 4 and 20 for the $129 USB-C version.
Do AirPods go on sale?
Often, at the big retailers. Apple’s own store sells at list price; Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and Target regularly price below it, and not always at the same time — which is what the table is for.
How we check these prices
Every price on this page was read from the retailer’s own product page (Apple, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target), and every page is re-read once a week. The date beside each price is the day it was last confirmed. List prices come from the manufacturer’s own store; struck-through prices are the retailer’s own “was” price, never one we worked out. Out-of-stock listings stay in the table, marked, and never count as the lowest price. When a page cannot be read reliably, the previous price stays up with its original date rather than being guessed.
