Which iPad should you buy?
The A16 iPad is the one to buy for video, reading, notes and schoolwork. 128GB fills up quickly with offline video and games; if you keep an iPad for years, the 256GB step is the one upgrade most people don’t regret.
iPad mini is for one-handed use — reading, travel, a cockpit or a kitchen counter. An OLED iPad mini is widely reported to be arriving later in 2026; if you don’t need one this week, that is worth knowing either way — the current model tends to be discounted once a replacement lands.
iPad Air gets you the M4 chip and a choice of 11 or 13 inches, which matters for split-screen work and drawing. The 13-inch Air is the cheapest way to a big iPad screen.
iPad Pro adds an OLED display with ProMotion, the thinnest design and the fastest chip. It earns its price for artists, video editors and anyone replacing a laptop — for everyone else, the Air is the better use of the money.

Why are iPad prices higher than last year?
Apple raised its US list prices across the iPad range on June 25, 2026 — the base iPad went to $449. Retailer prices moved with it, so a “deal” compared against a pre-June price may not be one.
Which iPad is the best value?
For most people the base A16 iPad, especially when a retailer has it below list. The iPad Air is the value pick if you want a larger screen or a faster chip without paying for the Pro’s OLED display.
Are iPads cheaper at Amazon or Best Buy than at Apple?
Usually, when they are on sale — Apple’s store sells at list. Which retailer is lowest changes from week to week and from model to model, which is why each model has its own table above.
How we check these prices
Every price on this page was read from the retailer’s own product page (Apple, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target), and every page is re-read once a week. The date beside each price is the day it was last confirmed. List prices come from the manufacturer’s own store; struck-through prices are the retailer’s own “was” price, never one we worked out. Out-of-stock listings stay in the table, marked, and never count as the lowest price. When a page cannot be read reliably, the previous price stays up with its original date rather than being guessed.
