Covers the first half of Tolkien's trilogy: Fellowship of the Ring and part of The Two Towers
Runtime 2 hours 14 minutes, rated PG, single DVD disc
Includes new featurette 'Forging Through The Darkness: The Ralph Bakshi Vision for The Lord of the Rings' (~30 min)
English audio and subtitles, Dolby Digital 5.1
Rated 4.6 stars from over 5,400 reviews, Amazon's Choice pick

This is Bakshi's 1978 rotoscoped version, not the Peter Jackson films, so go in expecting a dated but earnest adaptation with a devoted cult following. At $5 it's a cheap way to revisit it or introduce a kid to the story, and the remastered edition throws in a short Bakshi retrospective. Picture quality is still limited by the aging source print.
